Motherhood

WFH With A Toddler Is HARD

Working from home while having children at home is the biggest mind f*ck!

I was hoping to write a post on this topic to help everyone else out with tips and tricks that worked for me. After a month of working…. I have nothing for you and that is the truth.

Motherhood is not easy and trying to be a stellar employee at the same time? I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.

The truth is its hard. It is so difficult to try to be an attentive parent while trying to be great at your job.

For the first week of work, I found myself giving Aura Cheerios to keep her quiet during my phone calls or even pulling out the pacifier (which I was trying to wean her off of).

I was going backwards in my parenting just to get ahead at work and that did not sit well with me at all.

I had a conversation the following week with my Husband about this and what we can do to adjust. We both agreed that being Parents is our first priority and we must not fall back on that just to get ahead at work. We completely changed our mindset and reminded ourselves that Aura did not choose to experience this life. This pandemic is not her fault. No one signed up for this. While we are both balancing our work-from-home jobs while parenting- we are mindful of this.

The only tips that I have for you are these:

*We both time our lunch breaks so that we each get an hour with her uninterrupted.

*We use her nap times to get in as much quality work as possible.

*We ensure that we are giving her all the love she deserves regardless of how busy we are.

There have been times that Aura has been on my lap during my Zoom calls. Professional? Mmm maybe not, but you do what you have to do. And for the most part my colleagues have been very understanding.

So that’s all I got for you folks. Remember that being a Parent if your first priority and you are your Child’s entire world. They did not sign up for this, no one signed up for this. Try to find a balance, you got this! You are definitely not alone- I am there with you crawling out of bed waiting on my coffee every morning to get me going.
