As a mom who works from home, I know the importance of juggling work and family life. One of the best ways to be productive while working from home is to have a workspace that is comfortable, functional, and supportive of your needs. Whether you’re setting up a home office for the first time or looking to improve your current setup, here are some of my favourite tips for building the perfect home office.
-
Choose the right chair: Your chair is your primary support system while working. Look for a chair that is ergonomically designed and provides good lumbar support. Make sure it’s comfortable and adjustable to suit your height and posture. I use the Grin Chair from Effy Desk. I love it because it doesn’t take up too much space, its airy and it matches my space- aesthetically.
-
Invest in a good desk: Your desk is the focal point of your workspace. Consider the size, shape, and height of your desk to ensure it meets your needs. A standing desk is a great option for those who want to move around more during the workday. I was on the hunt for months for the perfect standing desk and finally found one that checks all the boxes, check it out here!
-
Get the right lighting: Good lighting is essential for preventing eye strain and headaches. Consider natural light as well as artificial lighting. Make sure you have a lamp that provides enough light to illuminate your workspace. I also like to keep a salt lamp on the desk as it serves as a purifier, delivers ambiance and looks super chic!
-
Add storage solutions: To keep your workspace organized, consider adding storage solutions, such as shelves, drawers, and file cabinets. This will help you keep your workspace clutter-free and allow you to focus on your work. I keep a cabinet in our closet which is behind the desk. This cabinet is where I keep all my paperwork and stationary. Tucked away- just like I like it 🙂
-
Personalize your space: Make your workspace your own by adding personal touches, such as photos, plants, or artwork. This will help create a positive and inspiring environment that makes you feel comfortable and motivated. I have a picture of my husband and I on the beach, just puts me back in that serene setting.
Bonus Tip: Keep a little box closely with new toys or books for the kids. If you find yourself having a little visitor unexpectedly, you’ll have something to keep them entertained for a bit!
By taking these steps, you’ll be well on your way to building a home office that supports your needs as a mom who works from home. A comfortable and functional workspace will help you be more productive and successful in your business while also balancing your family life.
