Tips for Dealing with Covid + Children

When I was in the thick of the virus, I scoured IG in search of moms who went through it and had advice regarding their children.

Guess what? I only found ONE mom. Needless to say- I feel there’s a shame about contracting the virus. Which I think is really silly.. why would anyone be ashamed of that?

I told myself when I came out of it, I would be that Mom who would share some tips + advice for any parent/caregiver who may be in the same situation I was in. I know how isolating it can be.

Please keep in mind that I am not a medial professional. My tips are just based on my own experience. Speak to a medical professional- always! I did.

*the fever WILL go up and down multiple times until it completely breaks. This could takes hours or days.

*I was rotating Tylenol + Advil but found that only when I stopped giving any medication is when the magic happened. I let the fever do it’s job and that’s when it broke.

*fevers are good for the body, not bad! I always viewed fevers with fear but really it was just helping fight off the virus. It is an indication that your body IS fighting something.

*saline nose spray (not drops) + a snot cleaner is your best friend. Do not skip this! Do it 3x a day.

*your child will lose their appetite. almost completely but try to force in some fluids, even if you have to syringe or spoon feed them.

*look out for dehydration. dry mouth and no saliva… this is when you seek medical attention!

*luke warm baths helped us to bring fevers down.

*popsicles were a great way to get fluids in.

for your own sanity, speak to a doctor to ease your mind… in these instances, that’s all that will do.

It’s all temporary, repeat that over and over again. You will get through this
